Open access platforms are a safety risk in a myriad of ways.
Barriers, and TSA agents controlling access just prior to train arrival or departure should be the norm at each and very station in America.

Perhaps the driver was in a hurry to get to the Its It store nearby. A decent store with more than just ice cream cookie sandwiches. All at a decent price and easily within walking distance.

My then- fiancé & me would always hit the It's It outlet during our morning walk after breakfast at Barbs Delta Diner. Usually about the same time #6 & a westbound stack would blow through town.

From Google, it looks like you can easily drive right on to the platform.  A few bollards will fix this.

Ridiculous. If we don't start holding people personally accountable for their actions, and punishing them severely for their negligence, all the "barriers" and "agents" in the world aren't going to prevent the inmates from eventually running the asylum.

Bollards and similar barriers are used to protect sidewalks and platforms in many places.

Easy to implement, good protection from truck bombs, drunk drivers, and persons intent on causing mayhem.

I saw this happen at the Berkeley, CA station once. The driver had been told to "turn right at the railroad tracks." Very entertaining for those dining in the former depot.
Then the train came...

Sarcasm aside, the bottle looks full. Maybe the driver regurgitated his drink back to the bottle to cover up his deeds? :-)

The more likely reason for the accident is distracted driving.

Still waiting for someone to throw the "they were following what their GPS told them" excuse out.
