Appears "inspired by" the original Amtrak as well as Canadian Pacific. I like it!

My guess is that the Dash-8 will stay. Only for the fact that parts are around and can be used as a switcher also. But they are not well liked by the crews.

That livery seems to work!!!

What I still don't understand - why did Amtrak never develop a more interesting paint-scheme (livery) for the AEM7 electric motors??? Even the E60s - a big cement block that could have had a lot of neat things added to it, and there was just no creativity with that motor! The AEM7's had "some" variation over the years, but for a motor that really put Amtrak on the map (e.g. NYP to WAS Shuttle Service via the Metroliner), I felt they left a lot to be desired......There was a little branding with the Amfleets used in the Metroliner service, but nothing that stuck out and made you take that much pause. Branding is so much these days.

So I take it this version didn't make the cut.   Not my photo.  No idea who's it is.    Saw it online back in June and wondered why it never made an appearance.

Reminds me of Metra.

Looks like I'm in the minority for finding this scheme to be uninspired.

Amtrak's scheme for its Midwest Chargers has much more pizzazz.  The photo is from an Amtrak media release.

To each their own...

Don’t know if anyone has noticed, but this is called a transitional paint scheme, only to be applied to a few units. This according to official sources.

"Transitional" to what ? Kill the LD network ?

The yet to be named scheme says it will be on the rest after the first 5 plus the 50th anniversary one. Wow, 50 years next year!

I like it. Although, once again, it seems like Siemens has no ability to match any other blue out there.

surprised no one has mentioned the classic term from the old days
Pointless Arrow:-)

Phase 3 is still my favorite livery -- no idea how it would look on a Charger though

Agreed about the look. I think they did a great job with the paint scheme.

The new nose is different than what I had understood - I knew they weren't using the phase 1 nose, but surprised they didn't go with the Via version. That said, they are saving some money by using the exact same lights and and glass from the ACS-64 for the ditch lights.

My interest in a paint scheme is minor.  BUT my interest in reliable engine power is big.  Amtrak needs 200 of these engines, even if only 75 are coming.

Then they should send the P-42s to Erie for a rebuild, so that there is reliable back-up power spread thoughtout the Amtrak system.

Money, unfortunately. Complex paint schemes were so much more expensive back then. Nowadays it is both cheaper and easier to apply (especially as many of them are just vynil graphics).

At least they didn’t bring back the pointless arrow!
