This , imho, is moot drivil.   "We need to fill pages with something controversial."

As a left of cener moderate, I know of absolutely no one who wants to defund the police.  It was a poor choice of words, born from the outrage from a police officer killing someone in cold blood.   "Better police training", or "Fire police with multiple brutality write-ups" just doesnt have the ring.

Ppl who are, like 20, just dont have the life experience to know the ramifications of things they say.   Theres just a lot of pent up anger.  Would be a whole lot better if that energy went into getting out the vote.

As for transit systems.....of course there should be police to protect the lives of transit workers and users.

Just as an aside, as railfans, we've all had to deal with officers, special agents, even city police, who have treated us like criminals for taking pix of trains.  Unfortunately, the ppl hired for these positions apparently have little perspective on what is a threat, and what is railfanning. its not rocket science.

Fine defund 'em.

Just like all the voices here who say Amtrak needs to fire employees who are rude, or don't toe the line.

Defund a local department that won't train or enact strict policies to protect the lives of both innocent and the suspect.

What's good for the goose is good for the gander.

Did anyone read about the city in Minnesota which did reduce funding for the police dept, and then when all manner of crimes went skyrocketing, they asked "where are the police"?...begging your pardon.....you are the one who forced half the force to be furloughed for lack of money to pay them.

As previously mentioned, "it is not rocket science."

No, I haven't read that, and after several minutes Googling I couldn't find anything.  Can you provide a link?  The premise sounds implausible though, given that gathering of crime statistics is time consuming, and generally lags many months if not years behind real time.

Look up the 50 School Principals beg for Police in Minneapolis. It’s an amazing video covered by the Washington examiner and several other sites. This was after the 59th murder in Minneapolis on Monday of a 17 year old. No police to be found.

Even in the "Good Old Days"  Good Luck getting a Police Officer -- Amtrak or City -- to the badlands in North Philadelphia.  You may remember the area as the scene of the Train 188 wreck.

Just curious if you think the Washington Examiner is biased, and if so where on the truthiness spectrum it falls?

Always nice to see a discussion on here that in some posts say defund, well its happining in Portand and Seattle lets see how well that works.  One item that seems to be missed but was shown on Live PD which was cancled earlier this year is the negitive reaction from some elements when stopped for a simple traffic vioation which turned into a foot chase, stolen fire arms, wanted criminals and such who fough the cops. Now all of those who would like to walk in there shoes step right up as there are plenty of jobs that need to be filled for cops and go out do there job.
