TxEagle woes yesterday/today.
Author: GenePoon

Texas Eagle 22(10) got the AMTK 22 as power.  That was about the last good thing that happened to it.  One car had to be set out in Ft. Worth.  The train hit a boulder south of St. Louis.  It lost four-plus hours on site before limping to St. Louis where it lost more time, at least 3:20...not sure exactly because train tracking ended when the mishap occurred.  Passengers boarding from STL on got a scenic ride on a deluxe motor coach.

Guess the corrected timetable didn't help out.

But that pesky boulder knew when to show up!

This wouldn’t have happened with the incorrect timetable

South of St. Louis the MoPac tracks are along the Mississippi River for a few miles next to a bluff.  A boulder could have fallen on the tracks at that location.  Or even farther south as they came thru several deep rock cuts in the Ozarks.

Exactly what I was thinking. The boulder was able pick the right day to fall as a result.

A few years ago I was on #21 west of St. Louis when we hit a mud slide. Derailed the locomotive and a couple of cars as I recall. So, the outcome for #22 could have been worse

That section of track has never been friendly to Amtrak or any passenger operator....I remember a washout back in July 2001 that took out a southbound Texas Eagle....one of the "victims" was Metrolink bi-level commuter car #184 on its way from Bombardier to Los Angeles.  Its career ended without ever hauling a passenger.

My first Amtrak trip had AMTK #22 for the power. Took us Staunton Va to Chicago, It was wonderful!  #22 is my idea of an AMTK loco !
