Extra cars on Empire West trains?
Author: twropr

Today trains 284, 64 and 281 all reported 28 axles (one engine six cars) by the Syracuse detector.
Is that one car more than usual?
Palmetto 90 also reported 28 axles
Doesn't appear to be much additional holiday travel on what is usually the busiest day of the year.

281, 283, 284 & 64 have all consistently been operating with 6 cars (5 coaches & 1 cafe/business class) for the past few weeks.

Westbound 281 turns at Niagara Falls for eastbound 284; westbound 283 turns at NFL for eastbound 64

For those who follow Empire Service trains and the Lake Shore Limited, as of 11/20, there is a new Virtiual Raiilfan Railcam at Fairport NY (about 10 minutes east of Rochester, NY) with both east and west views of the mainline and the former West Shore main which is alongside.

east view is of a tangent with a curve in view at the end giving great headlight-on-the-rail images

west view is of a crossing (Main Street) so one gets gate activation notice of train appearances

the cams are located above the train viewing platform created by the town.
