Moynihan Station Opening Day -- New Years Day 2021
Author: tradermarco

Good Evening Railfans,

Is anyone planning on visiting Amtrak's new train hall on opening day?  Would anyone like to meet & greet & eat? (hmmmm & hoist a pint or two)

Not with what's been happening with the COVID-19. I'm probably going to wait a few months when the numbers come down and more people get their vaccines. I know that while 1/1/21 will be a historic day in both Amtrak and NYC history, I am putting the health and safety of me, my loved ones, and everybody else who I congregate with on a regular basis first. I live extremely close to NYC and I'm not moving out of the region where I live anytime soon.

If it weren't for Covid, I would. I don't plan to go to the city until late Spring.

I considered it but not worth the risk with the virus numbers spiking and now a new worse strain spreading. I'll see it when we've all been vaccinated.

I agree with you Ross, it is not worth our health to take any chances.  Happy New Year and stay safe and stay well.

Very impressive!  New York City should have beautiful station like this.  I look forward to seeing it when it is safer to travel!

Thank you for the post.

The CBS Saturday Morning News had a nice feature on the new station. Very reminiscent of the old Penn Station, with iron girders, other design elements.  Mr Flynn led Jeff Glohr through the waiting room mentioned Amtrak's desire to renew transportation, with Amtrak's low impact on the environment.

He took a lot of pride in Amtrak's ability to deliver the project under budget and on time

Link to the CBS story. A must view. Historical footage as well as new. Commercial at the beginning. Be patient.
