Passenger Trains > Late Arrivals to Chicago 2/15/2021 - Will Eastbounds be Held?

Amtrak #8 is due into Chicago at 8 pm this evening, 2/15/2021.

Amtrak #6 is due into Chicago at 7:15 pm this evening, 2/15/2021.

I don't think #4 operated today, and #22 is heading toward Chicago but in a Service Disruption and I think stopped. 

So what will Amtrak look to hold, if anything in Chicago tonight - in regards to #48 and #30?

Currently on 6 trying to make it towards Chicago. The weather is close to white out conditions but we are still moving. 3 is being held west of Naperville due to the weather so we will see if we will make it through. Latest announcement leaving Galesburg was no decision had been made yet on 30.

In all reality you're looking at 9pm into Chicago for 8, that's assuming it doesn't take any more delays. Who knows, maybe 30 and 48 will be cancelled like 3 and 5. 7 was on time out of Chicago with 198/201/204.

30 waited for us on 6 to arrive. Whether it actually was waiting or the transfers were saved by the Mechanical problem is anyone's guess.

Long lines for people who came back on 3 that made it as far as the Aurora area before being sent back. Sounds like they will be receiving hotel vouchers until the Thursday departure unless they want to try for the Zephyr on Wednesday if it runs. 48 just called now for boarding.

I'm guessing this is Amtrak #6, eastbound Cal Zephyr, arriving Galesburg 5 hours late on Monday 2/15/21.

If the lead locomotive was number 11 then that was us. We were routed via a yard loop as the main was occupied by a freight. I was in the 632 sleeper which was directly behind the trailing locomotive. Just glad we made it through given all the cancelations this week.

Three regular Superliner Sleepers on the California Zephyr!!! For those onboard, was the train well patronized, or about average?                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                      

We were in the Bedroom in the 632 car. The crew used the roommates downstairs as their "dorm" space. The family bedroom and H room were occupied from Emeryville but we were the only people on the entire upper level until Salt Lake when two adjoining bedrooms were filled. The roommates weren't used until Denver when they were occupied with what looked to be deadheading freight crews? They were all gone by Omaha the next morning and remained empty the rest of the way.

It felt like a private car most of the trip but this probably worked out better as the attendant dropped out sick upon arriving on 5 so there was no one staffing the car until Reno when the coach car attendant from the last coach was assigned to help. Actually felt kind of bad for him as he had to keep going the length of the train to tend to his coach and also check in on us from time to time. He still did a good job and was attentive with the bedding, granted he sounded out of breath a few times. The LSA took care of the dining orders and they were served normally in the "sleeper lounge" car (i.e. brought to the table with the lids removed and not in a bag."

I think the most interesting part of it all was blowing through the snow on the way to Chicago at track speed. It really was an experience in the storm but they (safely) pushed through and we made it and our connection in Chicago (thankfully).

Thanks for the trip report. Sounds like the OBS team went way beyond the expected to deliver good service.

Let Amtrak know about this with dates and names. Good service deserves to be recognized
