Passenger Trains > San Joaquin Cabbage Cars

This morning, three of the San Joaquin trains had cabbage cars on their south ends.  The trains were #711, #712, and #713.

Consists not shorter that usual are they? I noticed the same today.

What happened to the new train sets?

The new trainsets are still being built and tested. They haven't been delivered yet.

About once a week for the last few weeks 710 has had a Cabbage leading the Amtrak California cars. I havent noticed if it was replacing the cab car or just the cab car wasn't up to leading that day. They also have another new Cabbage, one of the regular Amtrak painted cabbages that came up from LA about two months ago. Its been on 711 virtually everyday for the last two weeks.

One has been delivered. It’s been sitting in the back of the ACE maintenance facility in Stockton, Ca since October.

I think that Cabbage is 90278. I

We actually have pieces of three sets. But the Cab Cars for them aren't here yet, let alone the entirety of each set. Siemens is finishing the cars at the ACE facility.

BNSF has a 28 minimum axle count for passenger trains to operate at 79mph.

None of the new Siemens cars have been accepted by Caltrans yet. Siemens still has quite always to go in regards of bringing the cars into compliance with the PRIIA 305-003 Technical Specification not to mention Federal Regulations which would allow the cars to be used in revenue service.

How many cars in the consist? Is it possible the addition to the NPCUs has anything to do with the newish BNSF rule requiring 28 axles for 79MPH running for correct activation of the crossings, etc. On the Stockton Sub.

Also as I understand it, the new equipment will operate on the San Joaquins only (apparent with the Amtrak San Joaquins logo) with a mix of bi-levels and the Capital Corridors will strictly remain bi-level only. F59PHIs will remain for a while. New Chargers and equipment is to supplement service and equipment, not replace it like the Surfliner Chargers did.

The cabbages mainly run on the Comet Car trains, which are the typical ones referenced at the start of the thread. The one I saw on the bi-level 710 had to be a replacement for the cabcar, but overall it had 32 axles.

It is my understanding that the San Joaquins will eventually be solely Chargers pulling Venture train-sets. There will be a total of 7 train-sets. 

How many of the 15 California state owned F59PHIs are left? Some are now 27 years old.

I believe all of them still remain. CDTX 2001-2015. How many of them are in regular service is a different question.
