Passenger Trains > Things might be improving at Amtrak--maybe

I hope the following are indications that ridership might be returning:

.  Amtrak will end the practice of limiting bookings to 50% of capacity -- effective May 1.

, Amtrak says it will soon re-instate 2 Acela round trips (no specifics were furnished).

. Acela fares have really started to increase.
--two weeks ago,  NY-Wash Acela (coach)  fares were $39 (an utter give-away)
--then last week they were $79
--today -- depending on the train -- fares range from $128 - $239

Since the computer sets prices based on demand -- hopefully Acela is coming back to life.

Anybody heard anything else?

Oh well, selfish me wanted 2 seats to myself this summer.  

Of course riderhship will increase.  Why wouldn't it?

Ridership will increase only in the NEC?

"Why wouldn't it?" -- well, a big uptick in New York City  Covid cases might delay things - or the Zoom craze might hurt Acela., or, etc., etc.,

But, chances are you're right - it should return.  Hopefully, the things I sighted above are, at least, anecdotal evidence that ridership might be coming back.

The TSA has been reporting more and more passengers screened since the beginning of March.  It would not say much for Amtrak if they too were not seeing ridership gains.

I'm just glad the pandemic is over and we're getting back to normal!

We maybe getting back to "nornal" whatever "normal" is, but the pandemic is not over by any means.

A quick look at nationwide case counts will show the pandemic is far from over.  We're opening up things too fast, and covid will take advantage of our collective stupidity.

When do the new Acela's come online?

According to Amtrak's past information --  delivery of the first  new Acela trainset is due at the end of this year,

I don't remember them saying anything about delivery of the remaining 27 sets.



 

The Amtrak website says May 23 is the day they stop limiting capacity.
