Passenger Trains > Eastbound Sunset Ltd is running late.

I noticed on Transit Docs and read on another forum that the Eastbound Sunset Ltd is running over 5 hours late.  I read on a Facebook thread that the switch on the west side of the Palm Springs station wouldn't operate so they attempted to back the train into the station from the east end.  There was so much sand that had blown onto the tracks that the leading truck derailed.  The car was a sleeper.  Passengers were moved to other accommodations on the train but it was reported that there were only two openings in the other sleepers.  Don't know if they were roomettes or bedrooms.

Thanks for that report.

It's been incredibly windy here, more than usual.  Blowing sand closed two major north south streets (routes) in and out of Palm Springs on various days.  The modern day depot is in a particularly windy and sandy area.

Oh yes a bus ride to San Antonio. Oh yes that is fun as that happen to me.
Spare sleeper and coach in San Antonio.

The person reporting this on another forum said that everyone was being civil.  He didn't say how they determined who would get the two remaining accommodations in the sleeper but said the conductor assured them that everyone that got moved to coach would receive their meals while in coach.  I just checked Transit Docs and the train is still running a little over 5 hours late.

Looks like everyone for tonight's train at Palm Springs is SOL, Train 2 didn't even stop...

If they had passengers for the train, may have had them go to Indio.  Just a guess on my part.

That sand drifts can get high in that area.  When consideration was being made to stop the train, in order to show the site to the powers to be,
city ran a bull dozier on the access road to open it up.

Reminds one of a snow drift.

I saw the sleeper still spotted on the east end of the station track this morninig at about 9am.
