Major weather woes in DC-Baltimore area snarl Amtrak NEC
Author: GenePoon

The MARC Penn Line specified in the communication below is the Amtrak Northeast Corridor, so presumably Amtrak's NEC service was totally screwed, too.

Amtrak did issue an alert: SERVICE ADVISORY: Due to signal issues and downed trees on the tracks south of Baltimore (BAL) Trains 2173, 175, 90, 66 are currently holding in Baltimore/Washington (BAL/WAS). Crews are working to safely get things moving. Lengthy delays expected. Updates to follow.

That was more than three hours ago...thus far, no update.

An Amtrak passenger did comment in response: I’ve been stuck on train #90 here in D.C. since we boarded shortly after 9:50. Coming up on three hours. No end in sight.

Another one: Any updates? More than 3 hrs without moving is starting to dampen my excitement about trains and riding them, which says a lot :/

Due to the severe weather this evening, there are several downed trees and also a utility pole down across the Penn Line tracks. Amtrak estimates that it will take 3-4 hours to clear the tracks and restore service. Train 453 has returned to Penn Station and is cancelled. The next departure to Washington will be Train 403 tomorrow morning, departing Penn Station at 4:45am. Passengers from Train 453 will be permitted to wait in Penn Station overnight to ride Train 403 in the morning.

Train 452 from Washington tonight is cancelled. Passengers for New Carrollton, Odenton, BWI Airport, and Penn Station will be accommodated on Amtrak trains when the railroad re-opens, which is currently estimated for 3:00 to 4:00am. Passengers for West Baltimore should ride the Amtrak train to Penn Station and passengers for Halethorpe should ride to BWI Airport. The Amtrak train will stop at Odenton. Please follow the direction of the Amtrak and MARC customer service representatives at Union Station for updated information regarding this
Delays to tomorrow morning's service are likely due the weather damage tonight. Updates will be provides as they become available.

We regret any inconvenience caused by these delays and appreciate your understanding due to the extreme severe nature of these storms.

It was pretty bad from what I am hearing. Railroad just opened back up and things are now moving:

#90 - 8 hours late out of Washington DC
#66 - 6 hours and 40 minutes out of Washington DC
