Passenger Trains > Amtrak, MTAMD, WMATA Action in the Baltimore Area

I made a trip to the Greater Baltimore/Washington Area between 6/9 and 6/19. This thread will mainly be focused on passenger rail, rapid transit, and Amtrak. I managed to make a trip to the National Capitol Trolley Museum. Let the pictures begin. I will start off along the Baltimore Light Rail system along the north end on 6/9/21.

1. Timonium Fairgrounds Station-looking north.

2. A northbound MTA light rail train approaches Timonium Fairgrounds Station heading to Hunt Valley.

3. This was the light rail train at Hunt Valley that I took.

1. Looking down the MTA Maryland Light Rail Line in Hunt Valley with the Hunt Valley Station to my left out of view. That's the Shawan Road Grade Crossing in the background.

2. A light rail train is about to end its run as it approaches Hunt Valley Station.

3. A southbound light rail train departs Hunt Valley on the right.

1. LRV Car # 5044 trails on its light rail train away from Hunt Valley Station.

1 and 2. Northbound light rail train arriving and departing Timonium Business Park Station.

On 6/10/21, a friend and I ended up at Edgewood, Aberdeen, and Perryville MARC Stations.

1. Looking up the Northeast Corridor from Edgewood MARC Station

2. Looking south along the NEC at Edgewood MARC Station.

3. Northbound Amtrak Acela Train # 2154 races past the Edgewood Depot heading to Boston.

1. MARC Train # 502, being led by SC-44 # 81, arrives into Edgewood Depot with a solid set of Kawasaki Bilevels.

2. MARC K Bilevel Car # 7848 brings up the rear of Train # 502.

3. Amtrak Northeast Regional Train # 172 blasts past the Edgewood Station heading to Boston with 662 in the lead.

In photos 4-7 they have rail braces on the inside on the inside of the curve. Never seen that before.

Southbound MARC Train # 525 arriving and departing from Aberdeen, MD Station heading from Perryville to Washington, DC. Kawasaki Bilevel Cab Car # 7848 is in the lead while Charger locomotive SC-44 # 81 is pushing.

1. Sprinter # 665 leading Amtrak Vermonter Train # 56 through Aberdeen, MD heading to NYC.

2 and 3. The last of the Sprinters on the roster, the 670, leads a late running Silver Meteor Train # 97 past Aberdeen Station with a Viewliner baggage car trailing.

The next page of pictures was taken around Perryville, MD.

1. Southbound Amtrak Train # 79, being lead by 624, enters the Susquehanna River Bridge, enroute from NYC to Charlotte, NC.

2. No baggage car on the rear of 79 right now.

3. Northbound Acela Train # 2158 about to finish crossing the Susquehanna River Bridge as it enters Perryville.

1. Amtrak NEC Susquehanna River Bridge-looking south. Eventually this bridge is supposed to get replaced as it is a bottleneck.

2. Amtrak Train # 79 arriving into Baltimore Penn Station. Because the light rail was having major issues from the north and I had to get to DC fast, I decided to spend some extra money by taking Amtrak from BAL-WAS.

Photo 1 - the buildings in the background are new since the last Timonium train show Feb 2020 (or maybe Oct 2019 - can't remember if February got cancelled).
Photo 2 - the building in the background is the Cow Palace, where the train show is. We usually setup at this end. During the State Fair they display livestock there too.
