Nice set of photo's of the Johnstown PA Amtrak Station
Author: amtrakbill

This old station is splended under the covers.  Some restoration took place 20 years ago.  There is a subway that goes below the tracks to steps and an elevator built after the high level platforms were torn down around 1980.

Johnstown was also the smallest city in the country to continue it's street car lines right up into the 60's.  Also home of the Steepest Incline Plane in the world (believe this record was just broken 6 years ago).  The incline plane is a must see attraction (when it's running) as it's going through a refurbishment this year.

Enjoy:

I can't tell from the photo whether the present platform is low or high level.
The PRR station had high level platforms - not sure what happened to them.

PennDot and Amtrak should seriously consider bringing back high level platforms at Johnstown Depot. In fact, that should happen at all of the stations on the Pennsylvanian between Greensburg and Lewistown. That would help reduce the dwell times.
