Sunset Disruption today
Author: Hou74-76

This morning I was surprised to see the Train #1 (13) depart New Orleans.  I would have thought that Amtrak would have cancelled (out of an abundance of caution) the train in light of tropical storm Nicholas.  Sure enough, it looks like the train is in disruption at Beaumont, TX.  I have seen no "official" Tweets or service Bulletins but Amtrak live map shows it disrupted.

There is a derailment in Luling, TX about 60 miles east of San Antonio. The train will detour between Houston and San Antonio over a different route but will not miss any stops. It looks like they'll be detouring Rosenberg to Sealy on the BNSF, then via La Grange, Smithville, Lockhart, and San Marcos on the UP where it'll join the Eagle's route and head south to San Antonio that way and back into the station.

Thanks, I hope they stay high and dry and have a safe trip.

I wonder what caused the freight to go on the ground!

When I drove by, the Hulcher folks and the UP folks were hard at work at the west siding switch of Luling Siding.  Prolly 25 to 35 pieces of heavy equipment.

A detour is better than an annulment.  Good to hear the people in charge were able to make this happen.

I assume they will fuel it at the station since 1/2 usually use the fuel racks east of SAT at Kirby?
