Passenger Trains > 16th St Chicago - Metra and Amtrak

Video ... outbound Metra passes through the 16th St interlocking headed to Joliet. Then Amtrak 393 headed to Carbondale passes through over the "jump spans" put in place for the construction of a bridge over the new Wells-Wentworth connector in Chicago.

Snapshot 1 ... the eastern jump span cleared out enough that one could walk under it. The western span (shown in the video) still has dirt up to the beams supporting the track.
Snapshot 2 ... the CN bridge over Clark St with an important message.

What paint scheme does that present?

I suppose they are putting in more condos right by all those railroad tracks.
Modern rail passenger service!  Excruciatingly slow!  At least the track has
been rebuilt, and with new bridges.

It is one of Metra’s bike cars. Seating in one half of the main floor has been removed.

Usually faster than this but the temporary track and layout are causing very slow movement.
Listen to the squealing through the curve and next to the condos. When complete the rails will be straighter and the noise deminished.

At least, that is what CN promised.

When restored, the straight shot across the SCAL bridge should be fairly quiet. Still requiring a reverse move. I do not know when that will be completed.

Amtrak is pathetic.  Seven Superliner cars on #393, when they should be on the western long haul trains...........

Usual routing via the airline isn’t any faster, current routing hasn’t been sped up at all. Still 10 mph like it has been since the beginning of time. Only time will tell if speeds are actually increased.
