From the photo it would possibly appear that it was another person walking on the track because they probably think that is what the track is for and besides, "They don't run them train things here no more." That is usually their slightly moronic uneducated don't care thinking.

Glad to see that respect for the dead is (not) exercised here.

Not all the dead deserve respect.  In this case, an idiot caused many good people and an engineer alot of grief.

The original poster & media should refer to the people involved these types of incidents as trespassers (or illegal trespassers) & not pedestrians.

What do you specifically take exception to?

Or "I'll hear it coming and get out of the way".

A lot of self-rightousness,  great for those that never make a mistake.  Plus it is gratuitous and one of the..... of trainorders discussion.

Walking down active railroad tracks is hardly a "mistake"

Like I said ....

(I lived in  town which was divided by 4 track Milwaukee mainline where road crossings was probably more that two miles apart.  At one time there had been a pedestrian underpass but closed.
Every morning and evening Catholic School kids would cross and walk 2 blocks along ROW  one way and public school kids would walk the other way.  I guess we could have walked an extra mile and half to avoid tresspassing.  If you lived in a town with no railroad or in situation where the railroad did not bisect the town then....)

So that sounds like a town problem not providing a walk way for them.  People walking on the tracks and get hit deserve little simpathy as the engineer and anyone else in the cab see it all forever some leave there job because of it. Then the real cost takes over loss of income to the family.

I am not arguing for sympathy, it is just everytime there is car, pedestrian, tresspasser incident the thread continues in the same path with similar comments.
There is really no point to it?

However we know railroads and towns, counties, states close crossings to save on costs creating barriers.   That is a "fact.
We know that railroads will block crossing, for long periods of time until pressured to change.
I know this is ot the case here but I don't know the particulars but I do know not every case is just so simple

I was recently on a bike trail with a rail crossing and the train was stopped blocking the crossing.
A) I could wait for...
B) I could ride back 4 miles and then detour along a busy highway
C)  I could drag my bike though the woods a 100' and tresspass crossing the tracks at the rear end of the train.

So I was a tresspasser, an idiot, etc but there was zero train danger, danger  mostly being I could trip or fall.

With such events so common, why do any have to be posted?

Its no longer news.

There has to be a better source of threads than obituaries.

And no, lists of late trains posted with ininformed baseless accusations that Amtrak could do better are not much better. But at least no one dies.
