Unfortunately, it sounds like the new New York DA won't prosecute anyone, unless it's really serious!

These woke DA's need to be recalled or voted out. Any crime should be prosecuted. Feel sorry for the hard working police.

Apparently, the Manhattan DA will prosecute on felonies, but not on many "quality of life" issues like fare beating, taking up two seats on the subway, urinating in public, etc. Elements that are the cornerstone of subway stop and frisk for weapons and rugs, etc. Each of the five county prosecutors within NYC  has wide latitude on what policy their office will apply

One major change is he will not routinely prosecute on possession of a weapon if there's no related crime, like a felon packing, etc. That was a major part of the "get the guns out of the subway initiative" launched by Bill Bratton and co-opted by Rudy Guiliani. The police are very concerned about that, since few weapons are licensed. Expect that to be the next flash point, although persons possessing unlicensed weapons in Brooklyn, Staten Island, Bronx, Queens should expect to be prosecuted and jailed if convicted.

This DA just took office on 1 Jan, so I seriously doubt they have any kind of record yet...

He has clearly laid out his intentions:

The most asinine of which is downgrading armed robbery charges based on what weapon is used.

if a public rail transit system in ANY city wants to increase ridership, those who would feel "vulnerable" on their trains need to feel safer.

i think increasing a uniformed law enforcement presence on BOTH the trains and stations is the most effective way to immediately make MOST riders who would feel "vulnerable" safer and potentially increase ridership.

additional undercover/plain clothed law enforcement officers on public rail transit should be utilized also...........

Cracking down on turnstile jumping, forgetting the lost revenue impact, is part of "broken windows" strategy that lowered overall crime rates, because if they do that, they do more destructive crimes as well. I am not a fan of "stop and frisk", but the other lesson is forgotten.
