Empire Builder - Train #7/27 & #8/28 - Resuming Jan 12, 2022?
Author: jp1822

Empire Builder Train #7/27 and #8/28 are cancelled Monday and Tuesday, 1/10 and 1/11.

They are showing "sold out" for 1/12.

Presuming that's also a cancellation day? Tickets are available for Thursday, 1/12. So presuming Amtrak is hoping for some sort of normalized operations by Thursday, 1/12/2022. I presume Stevens Pass through the Cascades is still closed, or they are still trying to clear it out from a backlog?

Not sure if BNSF over Stevens is still closed, but Highway 2 over Stevens is closed until at least some time Wednesday.  Highway service from the Coast to Leavenworth-Wenatchee is now available via Snoqualmie Pass (I-90) east to Cle Elum and Blewett pass north from Cle Elum to Leavenworth/Wenatchee.

Blewettl Pass closed again Monday afternoon. Snoqualmie is only "use at your own risk--no stopping".

I bet the truckers are either gonna tough it out or just wait it out!

Aren't 'waiting' and 'not waiting' pretty much their only options?

Try telling that to truckers on I80 a few weeks ago!

Glad to see some sort of operations starting up. And I believe the West needs to go first, as there's more Empire Builder train sets out on the West Coast. So a day delay from the East (Chicago) sounds a bit right. Even if they start up operations between Spokane and Chicago, that will help get the line and its passengers back on track. The Cascade passes are likely still a mess and re-routing via Portland may prove to be lengthy due to freight train congestion.......Always amazed at how much traffic is on the Empire Builder route at the intermediate stops. And if Amtrak is trying to get a "corridor" (second train) Twin Cities to Chicago corridor train online, poor showing this past week by not operating a stub train along this route. Bus doesn't count.
