Selma, NC, Late Auto Train and a longer Silver Star
Author: jaybest

Selma, NC is the junction of the CSX South End Subdivision (the A-line mainline from Richmond, VA to Jacksonville, FL) and Norfolk Southern's NC-line (f/k/a the H-Line) between Greensboro and Goldsboro, NC.  Amtrak's Silver Star and Carolinian ply the A-line to Selma, then take the connection track in the northwest quadrant of the interlocking to switch over to the NS.  The Auto Train, the Palmetto and the Silver Meteor (when it is running) stay on the A-line southward toward Fayetteville, NC, Florence and Charleston, SC and Savannah.

1.  On January 10, 2022, a late-running (about 6 hours late - 9:30 am) Auto Train 52 strolls by Selma on mainline track 1 with P40CH's 832 and 821 and forty-nine cars.

2.  This morning (January 24, 2022), an on-time northbound Silver Star 92 swings through the connection track with P42CH's 60 and 151 and thirteen cars consisting of five 25000 series coaches, cafe 28005, new Viewliner II diner 68009, "Concord", five sleepers and a baggage car on the rear.  This consist is essentially a combined Silver Star and Silver Meteor.

There was some snow remaining from this weekend's 3 to 5 inches.  Temperature was 32 degrees.

The station interior has been well restored to its 1920s appearance.

A few areas remain to be completed
