Today's #3 and #5 seriously late
Author: lowwater

#3 about 4 hrs, #5 4:45, both due to "mechanical issues" according to AMTK Service Alerts. Anybody know 'the rest of the story'??

Here they are passing the accident scene this evening. #5 first followed closely by #3 with three private cars.

Both had mechanical issues which prevented them from departing Chicago on time. I know 3 had issues with a superliner. Not sure what it was on train 5. 7 left an hour late due to issues with their diner. 393 was almost 4 hours late out of Chicago. A strong day for Chicago Mechanical!

Seems like they are getting warmed up for the return of daily service.

The mechanical delays were entirely separate from the grade crossing accident.

Great pictures.  I wish I was on 5 now waking up in central Nebraska . . .

And tomorrow should be a daylight trip over the WP in west Utah and Nevada, including Arnold's Loop.  BSB

I really am looking forward to this, especially since once these 2 and a few others go daily, the Chief, Eagle, Sunset, and Starlight'll still not have a bag and dorm car and coach passengers'll still be banned from the diner!
