Passenger Trains > 393 (11) FunnsiesDate: 05/12/22 09:53 393 (11) Funnsies Author: filmteknik A friend rode 393 the Illini yesterday (11). After pulling out on time computer issues on the Charger were discovered. Neither propulsion nor HEP were lost so guessing PTC. After futzing with it for an hour or so they went back to the platform where the non-believers were allowed off if they wished. Eventually another Charger was put on and they got outta Dodge about 3:40 late. The app data still shows an OT departure but 3:57 late at KKI. Basically just posting this for posterity. Sh*t happens. Wish they could correct faster but I don't know what's involved in fetching another engine.

Or do they just wait until they are ready to depart before setting it up.? Bob Date: 05/12/22 10:43 Re: 393 (11) Funnsies Author: DevalDragon robj Wrote:

PTC is required on virtuallty every passenger rotue these days, and is usually initialized when the engineer logs in to the locomotive. I know it is required onevery route but "within" confines of Union Station track"?. So if you log in and initialize and it works but fails as soon as it leaves station tracks then it just all of sudden quit or was not really working to begin with? Bob Date: 05/12/22 15:50 Re: 393 (11) Funnsies Author: 2904 PTC is initialized in the station, it isn’t active until reaching Lumber Street control point. Sometimes there is issues initializing under the shed due to poor cell service so they will push the train out to
1) show an on time departure 2) hope it initializes without a building on top of the cab Posted from iPhone Date: 05/12/22 16:09 Re: 393 (11) Funnsies Author: mp51w Put a cell phone tower antenna under the platforms! Is there an option to initialize using wifi instead?
That way you wouldn't be fighting for cell phone bandwidth in a very high demand location. Date: 05/12/22 16:34 Re: 393 (11) Funnsies Author: kevink 2904 Wrote:

Often the app won’t load until after the train is in the open south of the new post office.
