Nice catch! Still a bit confusing as to why certain NEW Viewliner II Sleepers get put in service, and others held, while the Viewliner I Sleepers (with their poor aging) keep soldiering on.

If all 5 of those sleepers are in revenue service, then heads are gonna roll at Amtrak HQ.  How dare someone maximize ridership and revenue by adding cars according to demand.  This is just not how we do things now.  

Lots  of  business  for  that 'diner'.

Since the Star and Meteor were combined earlier this year they have had 5 sleepers in the consist.

The hardware on the passenger side door of the VL-II differs slightly from that of the VL-I.

The Meteor was suspended in January when most LDTs were reduced to 5 days/week. The Star was lengthened to handle the demand for both trains.
However the Meteor has yet to be restored -- it remains suspended until at least late Septmeber. My fear is that Amtrak management will decide it is easier to run one long overnight train between the Miami and NYC rather than two trains over two somewhat different routes. Or maybe maybe Amtrak has already made that decision:-(

The STAR is assigned five coaches and occasionally runs six.  Believe this is the only LD train to carry extra cars.

It was better when 91/92 and 97/98 where 18 cars long back as late as the mid 90s! Sad how things are these days!
