Toast - SEPTA's AEM-7's (and its lone ALP-44)
Author: Mgoldman

Each and every one of SEPTA's 7 AEM-7's and its lone ALP-44 sit (sat, perhaps at this point) along
the NEC in Morrisville, PA on Saturday, May 14th, 2022.  They were delivered by SEPTA in tow to
be forwarded to the scrapper nearby, in Fairless Hills, PA as I understand it.  SETPA ordered the 7
AEM-7's in 1987 and they soldiered on until December, 2018, the last AEM-7's to run, though some
remained availble for service on SEPTA's "Gel Train" into the Fall of 2021.

None will be preserved, though Amtrak donated two to museums, and sold two, to CALTrain.  MARC
may still have their four in storage.

The ALP-44 was one of 33 units, the rest owned by NJTransit.  It was built in 1997, seven years,
after NJTransit first units started to appear in 1990, the rest appearing in 1995 and 1996.

Farewell...

Thank you for documenting this. Sad ending to some real workhorses.

Is there anything actually wrong with these units?  They certainly werent in heavy service on septa.

The Marc units are at the Bombardier yard in Baltimore. Looking at them now.

The lone SEPTA ALP-44 was the last ALP-44 built and was part of a settlement between SEPTA and ABB for late delivery of EMU cars for the SEPTA Norristown High Speed Line.

Sad to see them go, they sure lasted a good long time in the Northeast. Only caught a glimpse once of a Septa AEM-7, and while they are very utilitarian in design, I kinda liked it.

Well - they were ordered in 1987, making them
over 30 years old before they were removed from
service.  I wouldn't doubt they could've soldiered on
another 10 years as they did for Amtrak, but as I
recall, they had become quite unreliable.

The one sent to CALTrain is for testing only, but it's
rather sharp looking:

Always felt they deserved a better livery than what MARC and SEPTA and Amtrak gave these units...... Nice looking for CA testing!
