Wrecked Amtrak Superliner on the move in Missouri

Wrecked Amtrak Superliner on the move on Hwys 24 and 65 near Carrollton, Missouri.  Amateur cellphone video released to media.  Yes, the phone should have been held sideways...

Sideways adn outside of the vehicle - but at least the radio was off and not blaring something obnixious or political.

Sometimes a grab shot is a grab shot.

Moving the car on it’s side makes sense to avoid any overhead clearance issues. Wonder if they’ll have any side-to-side clearance issues on the way to Beech Grove.

The route that is taken has to be aproved by the state highway department first.

Wonder if this was car left on side at wreck site for detailed inspection(there was one?).  Hey, at least got shot of movement.

Sad on all levels but mostly for the people and families affected.

This time they were much more careful in recovering the cars than the hatchet job that they did after the EB derailment.

That is a very wide load in the neighborhood of 18 feet.

Glad to see they are removing them carefully too, with the remote possibility they could be salvageable. In the EB derailment I remember they rolled them over top, completely distroying the roofs

Glad to see things are improving. I am sure Amtrak had some choice words with BNSF about needlessly destroying the Builder's Superliners.

No RR big hooks anymore!  It still makes me sick to see them move by lowboy on their sides, however practical.

Thanks Mr. Poon, for that outside Link.

I haven't said too much about the Wreck of Number Four in the Main Thread. It's somewhat too emotional for me.

I know two of the OBS Crew that were on the doomed Train. Both close friends. We had a Face Time yesterday
from a hospital in MO. The most seriously injured Amtrak crew man is still there. It ripped my heart out to see him there.

I can't give more details as to the extent of his injuries; I'm just thankful they are still alive. Railroading is a dangerous job
as all of us here at TO well know; whether active or retired, in the Industry, or not.

Very well put!  I once asked a lounge car attendant about accidents when I was on the Lone Star.  He was emotional and put my query down quicly!  I felt like a fool for asking.

NOT ALL of them were destroyed in the Joplin, MT Empire Builder accident that happened......

Locomotives, baggage car, Seattle section (sleepers and coaches), Diner, and Sightseer Lounge were re-railed and staged....first at a nearby siding leading to a grainery, then moved to Shelby where they eventually made their way back EAST to Beech Grove. The last three cars on the Empire Builder were wrecked - they had detached and rolled over and were scrapped. They did get a bit "handled" shall we say by the crew that cleared the site....The last three cars that were scrapped consisted of two coaches and one sleeper (the Portland section MINUS the Superliner Sightseer Lounge). I actually saw them with my own eyes tucked behind some freight cars at Shelby about a week after the accident had occurred.

Glad to see things improving as well. For the most part - these Superliners will hopefully be repairable.

I find it amazing that they got all the permits, approvals, trucks, equipment, police, guide vehicles, etc. mobilized so quickly to move the equipment.

Interesting video, surprised to see the trucks still attached. I would have thought that would be more trouble, or removed for less weight, but apparently not.

That car will be sitting in a secure location for the next year or so. Untouchable except for investigators.

I;ve got some old HO superliner cars that I never run on my layout.   But now I think I have a new way to display them credibly.
