One Empire Builder roundtrip cancelled
Author: GenePoon

7-27(3) and 8-28(5) are canceled due to "crew resource and equipment" problems.

If Congress really wants to run the national network when will people demand a new management and BOD? It's not a secret anymore Gardner is purposely destroying any good will with passengers and employees alike with a end goal of discontinuing most long distance routes.

Not according to RPA. We got traditional dining back on a handful of trains, (which is not much more than returning to what they had pre-Covid on those trains), and some new upholstery on some of the seats, so that tells us that Amtrak is totally on board with running a quality long-distance service! 🙄 Meanwhile in the real world there’s still no plan about either doing heavy overhauls on the existing equipment or what type of new equipment to purchase. Most of the trains are not even getting their windows washed on the exterior anymore. Most routes are still stuck with the terrible flex dining. They also have dozens of cars out of service for anything for minor to major repair issues. The new Siemens locomotives have been nothing but garbage. So Amtrak in their infinite wisdom decided to order more of them. It’s just one big fat mess.

You guys are just grumpy Gus’s.

Don’t you know if a train is late 12 hrs it’s a good thing? You get to spend more time on the train and experience the romance of the rails.

Dining cars? Club cars? Timetables?Express services? Keeping to a schedule? Who the hell are you grumpy old guy’s and who are you to demand such outlandish things from a transportation company?

Apologies, my sarcasm runneth over.

Guess what, you can roll your eyes about those claims, but coach passengers are still banned from the dining car and the equipment issue to me is a lame blame excuse, the Eagle and Capitol still don't have their sightseers back!

To be clear the above statement attributed to "NARP/RPA" is fake. The organization never said any such thing and it is unprincipled to convey, without disclaimer, and by the use of quotation marks the false impression that RPA supports this move by Amtrak.

Hopefully this cancellation was done to get the Empire Builder train sets back in synch. Too many late arrivals on West Coast and Chicago that got a cycle of late turns and crew rest of schedule. But this is VERY inconvenient for those that had bookings as the Empire Builder is operating at practically (if not completely) a sold out status in sleeper class, and coach is not too far behind........They are not adding any capacity to accommodate those that have to re-book, so they are basically SOL!
