Passenger Trains > Denver RTD R Line Derailment 21 Sept 2022Date: 09/21/22 17:44 Denver RTD R Line Derailment 21 Sept 2022 Author: cozephyr Denver Regional Transportation District (RTD) R Line suffered a derailment on a tight curve at E. Exposition Ave. and S. Sable Blvd., Aurora, Colorado. Incident happened at 3:45 PM, Wednesday, 21 September 2022. Three passengers taken to an Aurora hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Denver RTD 316 (Totally off the rails onto the highway) and 286 light rail cars involved. Denver RTD investigating incident. Highway intersection expected be closed for 15 to 24 hours. Denver RTD’s R Line brings light rail service from Denver through the heart of Aurora to Lone Tree. The 10.5 miles of light rail connects the existing track at Nine Mile Station up I-225 to the Peoria Station on the University of Colorado A Line. The R Line opened on February 24, 2017. The entire 22-mile R Line provides easy connections to the University of Colorado A Line and the H Line, making it easier than ever to get to the airport, the Denver Tech Center or downtown Denver. I think the operator took that turn way too fast. I'm surprised the first car didn't completely come off the tracks Update. There has been several videos that captured the derailment, the second one at that curve since 2017. There should be some kind of technology that would prevent such human errors. I'm surprised the front pair of cars didn't flip over on their sides.
