We're Train Chasin', Baby! - Wagon Mound Edition
Author: rgzfan

Note presence of #3 on the siding in Wagon Mound. The crow is talking into the phone I dropped at Blue Dumpster Road to detect #3 as it passed earlier, and he seems to be responding to the sound of the horns that he hears from the phone in my car. I'm assuming it's not a female crow. Female crows don't dig trains.

Me too. A BNSF employee had one of the Wagon Mound Wig-Wags for sale for about $2000 in about 2005. I looked at it. It had been stored outside sort of upside down. Water got in, pooled, expanded and broke a couple important castings. I was pretty bummed out by that. I didn't buy it. I guess I should have bought it though.

#3 in the hole  ,

wigwags removed in 2002 last time i saw them i think, so a couple years of a couple  freezing days will do that, 2k is a lot, to justify it would help if they were pristine.

You want to do those semaphores you have what about seeing if the santa fe southern or colorado pacific would  want them on an active line, i would guess IRM has all they need.

Maybe if any more of the tenn pass line gets activated, you  could talk to the operator there?  Heber creeper, Pueblo museum?

That's a neat video. We got to ride 3/4 last year to Winslow and the scenery through NM and AZ is simply fascinating to this midwesterner. Didn't see much of the semaphores since our sleeper was in the front and chose not to walk back to the last coach and instead spent the time with family hanging out. Would love to ride again soon, but trips like that are difficult to coordinate with everything else

I'm trying to imagine a configuration near active tracks that creates the illusion of an active pair. Think sidewalk chalk art with forced perspective.

Finding land adjacent to narrowest ROW would help.

I can think of one little scrap of land, but it wouldn't work. At 717, the tracks were straightened. The east part of the S was purchased by the adjacent landowner, who gave me access to his 30k acre ranch. When I told him about a "situation" at 717, he pointed out that he owns land on the track side of the fence and he showed me the H braces he'd placed in anticipation of moving fence. That parcel would get me extremely close to tracks. But there is no access to that side of the tracks and new 717 is right there.

Just thinking out loud.

What a delightful video . Nice to see the semaphores still in place on the east end of Wagon Mound. Thanks for sharing. I look forward to your postings.
