Commonwealth Engineering stainless steel coaches....Budd design??

Apparently a lot of these still in service in Austrailia. (??)     They look at lot like Budd stainless steel cars.  Anyone know the history?

Built using the Budd Shotweld process under license from the Budd Company. Budd cars were used as an example but designed for local needs.

Attractive. They  look  like  could  be   a  Sab nta  Fe  train!! Maybe  they need  a  plant  in the  USA!!

Budd licensed their technology and designs in a number of countries, including Japan and Brazil.   I am pretty sure that both recetnt bi-levels in Chicago and San Francisco built by Nippon-Sharyo area basically built under Budd license,, and the VRE single levels built by Mafersa. VRE also got some Nippon-Sharyo bi-levels, as well.

The cars pictured were built in the 1960's, but apparently still running in high end service.
Which makes me STILL wonder why Amtk cant keep the superliners in running condition.

just like automobile restoration you can keep cars operating,  have to have labor support.  

new equipment often is cheaper, that used to be the case, with todays huge pricetags not sure.

Interesting to me that Budd licensed its designs to several other countries, but there were never any Budd-style dome cars built outside the US.

I believe that in most other countries, including Austrailia, there are areas where most LD trains run under wires at some point ...hence no dome cars..

Didn't some Budd coaches get exported to Australia in the 1950's, like some of the cars for the stillborn C&O "Chessie". What happened to them ?

Hadn't heard that, but Budd did sell some RDCs for use in Western Australia.

That’s true from the Blue Mountains into Sydney Union Station it’s Electrified. All of Sydney Union Station is electrified. The Intercity Trains are high speed diesels

You mean Argentina for "El Marplatense". They still exist.
