The Ghost of #5 at Gold Run (Donner)

Yesterday's #5 was annulled at Winnemucca when they got trapped behind a UPRR derailment.  The passengers we bussed West and eventually the train set itself was released to deadhead to Oakland.
I caught up with them in Gold Run where, again, they waited for the UPRR to "get it together".   (They had also spent some time near Verdi  behind an HoS dead train and at Shed 47 behind a train with mechanical issues)
I had set up for a going-away shot at the signals at Gold Run.   I never got the shot I wanted.  The same WB that had held them up at Shed 47 earlier went by me and then, minutes later, went into emergency!
5 was held there in Gold Run from about 8:30 till sometime after midnight.  3 EB's, the 3rd of which stopped to assist (without luck) the dead WB, prevented them from crossing over to run around the WB.
I gave up and headed home around 10:45.

The sequence shown is the 2nd EB lighting up the waiting 5

The first shot is more like “It came from Outer Space”— haha. Love that one, SR— and also love that I don’t wait around all day in Reno and stay up all night working #5 ,the “California Service”, anymore.

Yeah, lately The Hill has become a logistical mess:   Whack-A-Mole railroading!

No wonder the UP won't allow more Capitol Corridor trains on the Hill---it can't even run its own trains!!
