Dave Date: 02/06/23 04:42 Re: Over The Tye River Author: Jimbo Yes, nice photo! Thanks.
This unusual former Southern Railway bridge was cobbled together from available materials after the existing double track bridge was washed away by the tremendous, deadly rains of the remnants of hurricane Camille in 1969. Date: 02/06/23 06:58 Re: Over The Tye River Author: ClubCar That truly is an amazing photo because of the odd looking bridge supports, not often seen on a main line railroad.

But don't be looking in northern Virginia for the Tye River. /Ted Date: 02/06/23 07:47 Re: Over The Tye River Author: engineerinvirginia WM_1109 Wrote:

Date: 02/06/23 08:17 Re: Over The Tye River Author: bigsavage Here is a pic of what was left of the original bridge, post Storm Camille in 1969. I believe this was the cover shot for a Southern Rwy publication.
It should be noted that Tye River is in Nelson County, Va., between Charlottesville and Lynchburg. Tye River was also the interchange point between Southern and the Virginia Blue Ridge Rwy.,a shortline which used steam power into the 1960's.
