Passenger Trains > Amtrak 318 - Deadly Truck StrikeDate: 02/07/23 12:22 Amtrak 318 - Deadly Truck Strike Author: sethamtrak Pic from KMBC 9. Amtrak 318 struck a FedEx truck. I would guess the one person dead is the FedEx driver. I hope the engineer isn't hurt too bad. Looks like the windshield is smashed out and there is a hole through it.
Wonder how the crashworthiness compares to a P42 that sits higher up. Charger cab sits low. Date: 02/07/23 13:16 Re: Amtrak 318 - Deadly Truck Strike Author: goduckies Yikes

If any mention made of the crossing situation, I missed it. UPDATE: saw a still photo of the scene with a 'private crossing' crossbuck incorporating a STOP sign. jb Edited 1 time(s). There isn't much between whatever you hit and you.

It does look like the driver is up close and personal to whatever they hit. Was this a design so they could look at the track better? Was this a design > so they could look at the track better? No, it’s a German design where their ROW doesn’t have dangerous grade crossings like we do in America; hence the lack of protection for the engineer. And to answer your question, in a word … NO, you cannot see out these engines better since they have major blind spots on the side. I run them so can attest to that from personal experience.
