Passenger Trains > Caltrain KISSesDate: 02/28/23 11:35 Caltrain KISSes Author: schaffner Yesterday morning Central Coast NRHS went on a tour of a new Stadler KISS electric train at the Caltrain maintenance facility in San Jose. Here's some photos I took.

The last one is the former FRA car T-10. Does anyone know if any other SPV-2000s are still around? Jim Maurer Date: 02/28/23 12:24 Re: Caltrain KISSes Author: stevef Thanks for sharing the photos!

Oliver Barrett Date: 02/28/23 12:51 Re: Caltrain KISSes Author: ExStarlightHog Nice, new stuff, but I still wouldn't feel like an engineer running it. I'd feel more like a street car motorman. Just not the same as traditional heavy rail. How come the restroom has English only? Shouldn't there be a dozen different languages since it's the Bay Area?

Needed to meet the current crash survivability standards. Date: 02/28/23 19:42 Re: Caltrain KISSes Author: goduckies ExStarlightHog Wrote:

Yeah, a 600 foot long streetcar. Date: 03/01/23 04:33 Re: Caltrain KISSes Author: agent1522 What is the purpose of the SPV-2000? I thought those had all been retired and scrapped.
Date: 03/01/23 13:53 Re: Caltrain KISSes Author: schaffner JPBX 505 was originally the FRA's track geometry car T-10. Caltrain now uses it to test the PTC system. I don't believe it's still self-propelled. The mechanical department person on our tour mentioned that it's hard to get parts for it. He laughed when I told him when SPV-2000s were being used for commuter service back east they came to be called "Seldomly Powered Vehicles".
