Photos show vehicle smashed after accident involving Amtrak train in Douglasville

A vehicle has significant damages after an accident involving an Amtrak train in Douglas County.

Very few details have been released about the crash, but Channel 2 Action News was on the scene at Veterans Memorial Highway in Douglasville Thursday night.

Photos show a white SUV that appears to be smashed in the front.

Channel 2 Action News reached out to Douglas County Sheriff’s Office for details about the incident, but they have not responded.

Douglasville, GA has been problematic for grade crossing collisions for decades.  There was a significant grade crossing separation project ongoing a few years ago with the specific intent of reducing grade crossing collisions in the city.  During the years I lived near Douglasville, it was pretty much a sure thing there would be at least one grade crossing strike there a year, if not more.
