Jeest! A real train!! It seems that somewhere in the country they run longer trains than the pygmaeoid Capitol Ltd. Brings tears to my eyes.

Many thanks for this swell video of #14. Looking at the last 2 cars; they are surely Budd/ HiLevels, with the interim paint scheme. But- which HiLevels are they?
Possibly one could be the rare Step Down car, but who knows. I can't read the Car numbers. Why are they going to SEA? Another mystery. At any rate- it was
fun to see your Video, gonx.

They don't look like step-downs (although the coach/dorm up front is).  Regular hi-level coaches were mixed in with Superliners on the western trains in the eighties and early nineties, before delivery of the Superliner II cars.  I rode one on the CZ from Emeryville to Reno in March 1996...was one of three set out cars for Sparks.  The double drop down stripes were unusual though.

I surely know about the Budd HiLevel, ex/ATSF Car history, mixing with the Amtk early gen Superliners, and later. Those double drop down stripes got me to thinking, though! Thanks for the Reply.

In my mind this was Amtrak at its best. Thanks for the video.

Remember - this was in an era when the Coast Starlight was the main (only!) passenger train between LA and San Luis Obispo (on its trek to Seattle/LA). Then there were also less frequencies on what we now call the Cascades Corridor. The coaches were plentiful and often PACKED to accommodate these loads of passengers in what would become a HUGE state-supported corridor" region (e.g. Pacific Surfliner, Amtrak Cascades). Perhaps that goes to show the evolution of how a long distance train can be introduced/operated and then over time, state support comes in to create additional frequencies on the more popular "corridor" portions, but its overlaid (or started) with a LD train. Would that approach been better than Amtrak's US Connect plan? Train in video that was shared had SIX coaches to it!

Same with hub and spoke areas, Salt Lake City being the hub for the Desert Wind and Pioneer from the CZ, that worked, and moving 25 and 26 over the Overland Route from Denver was great, if Amtrak had smart ledership after Claytor they would've kept going strong!

Real nice video, was it normal for 14 to run with 2 baggage cars up front that train. Unless 1 of those were in a deadhead move.
