Passenger Trains > Rio Grande Zephyr / California Zephyr Stub - Sort Of - 7/3/2018Date: 03/11/23 21:06 Rio Grande Zephyr / California Zephyr Stub - Sort Of - 7/3/2018 Author: rgzfan Looked left when crossing at Crescent and was surprised to see what appeared to be tail of Silver Solarium. Raced down to bridge at Coal Creek Canyon Road and set up and waited for it. Then moved to just west 93 overpass. I left my red Giotto Rocket on the ground there. When I came back next day, it was gone. I imagine the bare spot where I placed my tripod was bare for a reason. Maybe someone found it.

My movie camera lenses have a UV filter far enough forward that the slightest dust on filter is pretty conspicuous in the recorded image. So I go nowhere without a Giotto. The red ones are larger, which makes it possible to achieve a higher muzzle velocity than with the smaller black ones. I think they also make a version with an intake filter, so you don't wind up sandblasting your optics if there are airborne particles where you are working. After the incident described above, I started carrying two with me so that shooting wouldn't have to stop immediately upon losing a rocket. The next time I lost a rocket was at the Green River, UT Amtrak station in June, 2019. If you find a red Giotto Rocket near the tracks, it may mean that I'm nearby. Edited 4 time(s).
