A Trio of GOLD on Chessie System. April/May, 1983.
Author: Guitartrain

1. In honor of the Electro-Motive Divisions 50 Years of Power, Chessie System had B&O GP40-2-4164 painted in a solid gold scheme with blue lettering and called it GM50. It later became CSX 6063 in CSX paint. Here, GM50 is E/B on an NRHS Special. The train is entering single track on the Philadelphia Sub. 9:30AM on 4/30/83 in Rossville, MD.

2. So much to see in this picture. In addition to Chessie System GP40-2- GM50 (W/B on an employee special) there is the Camben Yards warehouse on the left (now part of Oriole Park at Camden Yards), The Bromo Seltzer Tower, the Holiday Inn (with its revolving roof-top restaurant), and of course, Camden Station (just above the passenger cars). The first car was originally a New Haven Parlor Car. 8:40AM on 5/7/83 in Baltimore, MD.

3. Chessie System GP40-2-GM50 is W/B on track one of the Washington Sub, with an employee special. 9:20AM on 5/7/83 in Elkridge, MD.

Thank you for sharing, but perhaps this belongs on Nostalgia & History?

It does and this trip has been written about before on the Nostalgia & History but with some other photos.  By the way, these two photos taken by Guitartrain are excellent, thanks for sharing them with us.  Here is another photo taken at Camden Station prior to leaving in the morning.  The train had quite a variety of passenger cars including a number of them owned by the Baltimore Group, Railroad Passenger Cars (RRP) who had supplied cars for both the Chessie Steam Special and the Chessie Steam Safety Express Trains.

The very first time I aimed a camera (my Mother's)  at a locomotive was GM50 departing Rockwell Yard in Chicago. I'm guessing 1974-ish....
