Pepsi Can on the Texas Eagle...
Author: atx_railfan

We don't get many heritage units on the Texas Eagle these days since the general locomotive pool has been the 5x/6x series P42s, so when I got word that Amtrak 160 would be leading yesterday's Texas Eagle, I raced trackside. I caught it in south Austin, running about 25 minutes behind schedule. This unit was put on the southbound in Fort Worth after being the Heartland Flyer's protect unit for a couple weeks. Apparently it's being put on the westbound Sunset Limited tonight for Los Angeles.

Thanks for viewing!

Well, we have had a lot of rain this spring so it looks like the Eagle is coming out of almost any place in south Austin.  I am guessing that four car double header is at W. Mary St. - or are you further south at a more secluded location?  I am impressed how free the r.o.w. is of trash.  We have junk and litter strewn along the tracks at numerous south Austin locations.  You are right, we don't get much variety here in engine or car consists.
