Empire Builder(s) delayed by Fire Department activity in Milwauke
Author: illini73

#8(29) sitting betwen Grand Ave. Jct. and the Cut-Off in Milwaukee (west of the depot) due to "fire department activity".  #7(31) approaching Milwaukee will soon be delayed, too, if they don't get this cleared up quickly.

The fire is at Milwaukee Recycling, just west of the Milwaukee Depot on the south side of the tracks.  It's a major fire and has been burning since 1:45 this afternoon.  The fire was not under control as of 4 p.m. CDT, and the Fire Department expects to be on-scene well into the evening.  While it appears the building is far enough from the tracks that trains could run, the fire department may think differently, especially given the materials that are burning and the resulting smoke inhalation hazards.  Any Milwaukee TV outlet's website (wisn.com or tmj4.com are two) will have the story.

Update:  The fire department has released the trains as of 5pm:  #8 delayed about 80 minutes, #7 hardly at all.

Finally arrived Glenview 2 hours late at 6:12 p.m. with our friends 318 and 325 in the lead, as the not-very-good grab photo shows.  He was followed about 40 minutes later by the vastly over-powered train 340, 2 engs 3 cars.
