Passenger Trains > Crescent ConsistDate: 06/04/23 09:02 Crescent Consist Author: texchief1 Can anybody tell me what the present Crescent consist is
Thanks! texchief1 RC Lundgren Date: 06/04/23 09:09 Re: Crescent Consist Author: Amtrak-P42 All of these cars are incredibly filthy, borderline impossible to see out of:

If they have the ability to sell space in it - why is space not sold? Please don't tell me the only time this car is opened up is between Washington DC and NYP (e.g. while on the NEC). I actually saw the Crescent as a booking option when traveling between Washington DC and NYP last week. I absolutely do NOT understand why they can't operate the Viewliner II Diner in the Crescent consist. The sleeper car attendants on the Silver Service and Lake Shore Limited help out in the VIewliner II Diner. My point in saying that - it could be operated as just a basic "lounge" car so people aren't cooped up in their rooms for the entire trip (still keep all food service out of the horribly designed Amfleet Diner Lite car). There's just absolutely no rationale excuse for not operating the Viewliner II Diner on this route. They have the Viewliner II Diners in inventory. Plenty of them. It would only take one attendant to restore food service for sleeper car passengers only in this car/train. Yes, a cost, but Amtrak has the money. Interestingly, Amtrak adjusted the schedule between Atlanta and Washington DC conveniently enough to avoid dining options of Atlanta bound or boarding passengers. Date: 06/04/23 09:38 Re: Crescent Consist Author: lordsigma The schedule change for the crescent was directly related to OTP negotiations with the host and coming up with a “certified schedule” that both parties agreed to - this is required by law in order to pursue relief from the STB. There was no ulterior motive on Amtrak’s side of it. The Crescent’s OTP before the change was absolutely atrocious due almost completely to NS’s handling of the train.

Date: 06/04/23 16:49 Re: Crescent Consist Author: MEKoch NS needs to be dragged into court and penalized heavily. The schedule is already SLOW and they still cannot operate one passenger train a day on time.
But it is okay for them to operate 15,000 ft. trains that won't fit anywhere; have mechanical problems; block the rail road for three hours when problems occur. Back in the late 70s and early 80s, I was on the Crescent almost daily, and we rarely operated late; we even made up time going north into D.C. with big 14 car trains. Nothing will change with NS, until it costs them big money for all delays.
