They are going to spend $100 million for 3 stations There 469 more to go. At that rate, it will be $15.477 Billion. Some are physically impossible to intall with stairways and pillars leaving no place walk with a platform door, and there are platforms on curves. This is not the Washington Metro. Increased police presence, jailings, mental health institutions, broken windows strategy, fare beating crackdowns. Transparent wall with sliding doors where the cars doors are.

Rode the A, E, F, & C for 10 yrs in the 80's and 4,5,6 lines in early 90's. But police presence and locking people up can't be ignored.

Stopping at the same platforms. Which means the doors on the trains and doors on the gateways won't always line up.
It would be nice if the subway cars were all the same length, and had doors in the same location, but that won't happen. Date: 06/07/23 22:54 Re: link: nyc subway testing gates to prevent being pushed on tra Author: jgilmore rkennedy2 Wrote:

Exactly, when I lived in Brooklyn and Manhattan I rode the subway near daily for close to 20 years and nothing beats situational awareness. Along with some simple steps like standing with your back against the wall or one of the big metal beams near the tracks, that way no one can get you from behind. Stand away from people, always look around (you can hold a tabloid and still watch people), and don't move to the train until it starts to pass the platform, no tracks to be pushed onto. And if you don't make the crush, quickly move back to previous stance until the next one. Simple and effective, no problems in all those years... Once the 625 R68's and 746 R46's are gone, which are 75 foot cars, there will be some uniformity on the "B" division, but that will take the rest of this decade. But that is only BMT heritage lines. Yet, there is seldom anything going on at nearby PATH stations at 14th Street, 9th Street, and Christopher street. They are smaller mezzanines and platforms, PATH conductors are out in the open in the 1st car, surveillance cameras, and Port Authority police presence.

> Yes. But that is only BMT heritage lines. IRT lines are down to two types of cars, always 51 feet in length - R62 and R142. Door positions on IRT cars always had to be rather uniform, give or take a foot, due to moving platform grids at South Ferry on the west side and 14th Street on the Lex. ------------------------------------------------------- > Treating symptoms, not the cause. Of course you're right. That doesn't mean don't do it. The cause is incredibly complex, far outside the subway's realm. But if the subway can make their patrons safer, even if only at some of the busier stations, more power to them. Why are they pushing people in front of trains in the first place - THAT'S the problem to go after,. That's a lot of tax payer money to be spent while the main problem - "the pusher" - will just be left on the streets to find something else to push the harm onto. Is this really going to treat the problem, let alone solve the problem? NO! Absolutely crazy.
