With the Amtrak spin:

WASHINGTON – Amtrak has appointed Eliot Hamlisch to the position of Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer, responsible for corporate marketing, sales distribution, network and consist planning, market research and pricing and revenue management for the Northeast Corridor, State Supported and Long Distance service lines.

“At Amtrak, Eliot will lead our continued transformation of the customer experience. If we are going to achieve our goal of doubling our ridership by 2040, we need to delight our customers at every step of their journey with us,” said Amtrak President Roger Harris. “Our ability to grow our customer base and revenue depends on us consistently providing this great experience.”

Hamlisch has consistently delivered results for leading consumer-oriented hospitality companies. Most recently, Hamlisch served as Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer of AMC Entertainment Holdings, Inc., the world’s largest theatrical exhibition company and an industry leader in innovation and operational excellence. Prior to AMC, Hamlisch served as EVP, Loyalty and Revenue Optimization at Wyndham Hotels & Resorts, the world’s largest hotel franchising company with 9,000+ hotels across nearly 100 countries and 22 iconic brands. His oversight spanned the company’s award-winning loyalty program (Wyndham Rewards), customer engagement, loyalty, credit card, partnerships, distribution and revenue management functions. Previously, Hamlisch was Wyndham’s head of Global Sales, generating more than $1 billion in annual revenue across the company’s worldwide hotel portfolio.

Earlier in his career, Hamlisch held leadership roles in strategic planning, business development and customer engagement with Starwood Hotels & Resorts, Deloitte Consulting and American Express.

Perhaps it is time to have someone in senior management from the hospitality industry.

The biggest thing that'll hinder them from growing is always keeping the LD Trains at bay, like the few times I saw no. 3 for the 3RD year in a row, Dorm, 1 sleeper, 2 coaches, diner and a lounge instead of at least 2 sleepers besides a dorm because of the non peak, or like one year where they had 3 coaches for a year it seemed like beause of ridership being so heavy, until they actually figure that out (which is doubtful) and quit thinking Amtrak's future is just corridors only on growth, nothing's gonna improve at all!

Focus on running clean, safe, on-time trains with decent food at prices people can afford. Accomplish that lofty goal and then America will have caught up with the rest of the developed world.

Well, this hire is completely unimpressive for the position at hand.....And yes, I did my research before posting.

Hopefully Eliot will ride LD trains regularly unannounced

From what my son and daughter-in-law have told me about their recent stays this summer at Wyndham hotels and the condition they were in, this is not a good hire. The mediocrity at Amtrak will continue unabated.

Besides a few upscale hotels, most of their places are junk, like Days Inn and Super 8. Yeah, put one of those on wheels and see how much the people flock to it...

Let's be optimistic and say that he left Wyndham because he couldn't get the company to improve its standards. Let's be even more optimistic and say that he'll soon take an anonymous ride on the City of New Orleans, see the first-class dining menu that's been discussed here recently, and upgrade it from highway rest stop fare to something he'd want to feed his family.

What's the excuse for AMC? They've had a worst past and road ahead than Wyndham........Amtrak needs an aggressive turnaround person with proven past etc. etc. This isn't it. But I will happily be proven wrong.

Even some Hyatts don't do housekeeping on your room until you have been there 4 nights, which is a de facto rate hike, and most hotel chains have followed suit. Your little bar of soap and shampoo tube won't last that long. They're just cheap and Covid is the excuse for everything, can't do this, can't that anymore..

Gardner and Coscia are running Greyhound/Flixbus service on steel wheels. Having someone from hospitality can only improve things.

As an airline crew member we stopped staying at Wyndhams years ago. Even their most upscale properties have seen better days. They seem to be concentrating on their La Quintas and Baymonts. La Quintas are an OK no frills brand, Baymonts are on the Motel 6 level.

The Oaktree Inns were taken over by Baymont Inn a few years ago and the results have been we pine for the good old days of Oaktree Inn.

Ponder that.

Not if there is only one train a day that usually arrives on the right day.

I would say Amtrak needs significantly more trains serving more cities/towns before we can say that.

This is probably fine, no real issue with this hire.

Don’t you think if I worked for Amtrak I’d be cashing my massive bonus checks instead of posting here?
