Passenger Trains > Cardinal (2/22/2024) Delayed at Charlottesville

So the bird flew pretty well eastbound from Chicago, Train 50 (2/22/2024), but then started to get delayed coming into Montgomery.....Just to note, the westbound bird , Train 51 (2/23/2024) - on-time as of 7:10 pm eastern time coming out of Thurmond.  

Granted it, the red bird arrived into Charlottesville at 6:05 pm - 2.5 hours late. There is padding into the schedule for the train coming into Charlottesville. Yet it still hasn't departed Charlottesville as of 7:30 pm eastern time. So it's been sitting at Charlottesville for over roughly 1.5 hours....and still counting. Interestingly, Regional Trains #66 and #171 are planned, or were on-time, into Charlottesville. 

Anyone have insight as to why the eastbound Cardinal would have been delayed at Charlottesville this long (and still accumulating). It's posted that the train was to leave at 7:00 pm, after a 6:05 pm arrival. Normally it would just spend 9 minutes at Charlottesville and be gone. I believe Charlottesville is a crew change for T&E crew. Yet the eastbound was on-time in/out of Charlottesville. But perhaps it's a bit more complicated than this and some last minute T&E crew issue happened? 

Anyone have any insight? Just curious as to what grounded the eastbound bird at Charlottesville on 2/23/2024.........

Started with a fatal trespasser strike just east of Charleston. That resulted in a surprisingly short hour and 35 minute delay. I'm not sure what happened at Charlottesville.

Well, for what it's worth, the eastbound Cardinal (2/22/2024) came into Charlottesville 2.5 hours late, and then left 4 hours late. Estimated to arrive into NYC after 1:00 am! 

Appears the additional delay in Charlottesville was due to waiting for a rested crew.

It used to be you could wiggle around a standing passenger train by running through the middle depot track of Charlottesville yard....but BB took the west swtich out that went to the main...you can only get to the NS interchange yard....it would help if that switch were put back in. 

Crew rest.  Same crew runs 51/50 between DC and Charlottesville.

Failure to maintain an extra board bites Amtrak yet again.
