Passenger Trains > FL SunRail Expansion 3/24

The Roaming Railfan has another U tube report on the Orlando area railroad's 12 mile northerly expansion to Deland.

Much of the second track is in, the new platform has been roofed, and the crossings are done.

SunRail has begun running test trains.

Great!!   Wish   they   had  an inerest in  ging  soth  to Ft. Meyers.

Good! Now if Sunrail could just "northerly expansion" to Jacksonville
that would be perfect. Intermediate stops might include Orange Park
and Green Cove Springs, the perfect solution to congested, rage-infested
US Route 17.  Thank You for the report Lackawanna 484.

US 17 is indeed a hell hole, but road rage seems to be an active presence in much of Florida.

I don't think Jacksonville or Duval county is part of the authority which funds the rail line. Joining it might cost big $$$

Indeed. Each County through which it operates has to join the group and pay their due. SunRail will go neither to Jacksonville nor to Ft. Meyers or wherever else unless the Counties in question and ones on the way all join the Compact and pny up.

Only COunty that has shown a vague non-commital sense of exploring joining is Polk County, but I don;t think that will happen anytime soon either.

To get to Jax you would need Putnam, Clay and Duval to come on board.

Seems to me that Brightline should be encouraged to do its Jacksonville  project and also figure out how to get SunRail from Deland to a connection somewhere around Daytona Beach.
