Passenger Trains > Better Late than...

...On Time?

This train is normally scheduled into Truckee, CA, at 9:37 AM and would make this location around 10:15 AM. So, while the diner would normally be serving breakfast for the passengers I took advantage of the late running Amtrak 5 on Saturday, March 16, 2024, to serve up a wedge salad, grabbing a shot of it on the west slope of Donner Pass as it approached Soda Springs. Amtrak 169 is definitely showing her age but looks radiant enough in the last of the day's sunshine.

Awesome shot! I was on the previous 5 and were much closer to "on-time".

169  has  seen  some  action over  the  years!

I'd be kind of bummed going over the Sierra in the dark if I was on 5, so you were fortunate being on time.

Funny enough, looks aren't everything. From the few hoggers I've talked to, the 169 is one of the better P42s running around right now.
