LIRR Forest Hills Station
Author: eastpenn23

I visited Forest Hills, Queens, New York today with the intention of walking around the unique neighborhood for the first time. I did not know they had a bustling LIRR station too, but I was happy to stop and shoot some trains coming in and out of the city. The station and neighborhood is very nice, and it feels like you're in a wealthy European neighborhood rather than NYC. Here are some shots:

1 - Station front
2 - Outbound train with a nice set of old signals
3 - Inbound to Penn Station

Thank you, very much, for posting these photos.  Next time I am in New York City, I ride the Long Island Railroad to check out this station.

Through internet research I learned that Grosvenor Atterbury was the architect and Frederic Law Olmstead designed the landscaping for the station.  Teddy Roosevelt gave one of his last speeches at this station.

Although the usual media narrative is a dystopian hell hole, there are many lovely neighborhoods in NYC.

Douglaston, Bay Ridge, Todt Hill etc would be on anyone's list.

Easy enough to get there on LIRR, though the subway is 2 blocks north.

The enclosed pedestrian bridge from the eastbound platform to an apartment building has been sealed off for several decades.

Very nice! Forest Hills is a nice station to railfan at. It's great that you are able to view a diversity of equipment passing through and stopping there.
