Passenger Trains > 125 mph Silver Meteor through Princeton JunctionDate: 04/09/24 15:21 125 mph Silver Meteor through Princeton Junction Author: hsr_fan Amtrak's Silver Meteor is usually limited to 110 mph on the NEC due to having at least one Viewliner I in the consist, as the first gen Viewliners still haven't been certified for 125. But Sunday's Miami bound Meteor passed through Princeton Junction at 125 mph with an all Amfleet II and Viewliner II consist.

No radar gun, I can normally judge pretty well by feel but I looked it up on the tracker and it was doing about 122 just to the north of here. So, maybe not 125 exactly but close. Cool video. It was definitely hustling. Also the usual mix of clean and dirty cars. So weird that that train is never all clean, or all dirty. But that's a sad, short, filthy, little train. Date: 04/10/24 20:33 Re: 125 mph Silver Meteor through Princeton Junction Author: hsr_fan atsf121 Wrote:

I don't understand what the difference is between the Is and the IIs that prevents the former from being certified for 125, as they appear to ride on the same trucks. And Amtrak ran some 125 mph test runs a while back with the Viewliner Is, so I don't know why they haven't been certified for 125 mph. Date: 04/11/24 04:05 Re: 125 mph Silver Meteor through Princeton Junction Author: jp1822 I thought the Viewliner I's did get certified for 125 mph service, and that they were only limited to lower speeds by the heritage equipment that is in the consist (e.g. Heritage Diners and Heritage Baggage Cars). Heritage equipment is now of course a thing of the past on the NEC. I also say that with the fact that knowing consists can be switched out with Viewliner I and II sleepers at any time, technically. So not having Viewliner I's at 125 mph in any long distance consist now takes an extra "review" to go through when travelling the NEC. Interesting.....
