Passenger Trains > Ghost of the City of San Francisco on Donner Pass?Date: 04/13/24 07:00 Ghost of the City of San Francisco on Donner Pass? Author: broken_link Well, kind of.
I waited for the westbound Amtrak Train 5, the California Zephyr, to climb up from Truckee after shooting an eastbound UP manifest at Norden early in the afternoon of Sunday, March 24. The freight was in the hole waiting for the late running Train 5 to clear the single track between Shed 47 and East Norden on Donner Pass. I wasn't expecting to see Armour Yellow on the point as the train emerged from the snow shed at CP RV191 West Norden. Somewhere along the way the Amtrak picked up UP 3894. It's funny how ubiquitous these SD70M units were 20 years ago, and now I get a little excited to see one. Along with the Dash 9s they were the SD40s of their day, but someday they won't be around any more. Cheers, Sean You must be a registered subscriber to watch videos. Join Today! ALLEN Date: 04/14/24 01:21 Re: Ghost of the City of San Francisco on Donner Pass? Author: coach When a situation like this happens, doe the AMTRAK engineer fill the seat, or does a UP engineer take over? And, does the UP engineer have to be passenger certified, if that still exists?
Date: 04/14/24 07:32 Re: Ghost of the City of San Francisco on Donner Pass? Author: broken_link I was wondering the same. You might have noticed in the photos, though perhaps not at this resolution, that someone is riding shotgun in the conductor's chair.
