Passenger Trains > Rocky Mountaineer 8-car Training Run 17 April 2024Date: 04/17/24 13:23 Rocky Mountaineer 8-car Training Run 17 April 2024 Author: cozephyr 1 - The Rocky Mountaineer (RMRX) 8021 & 8020 climbed the Big 10 near Rocky, Colorado, on Union Pacific's Moffat Tunnel Subdivision 17 April 2024. This was a training run with 8-cars.
2 - RMRX 8021 emerged from UP's tunnel one near Plainview, CO, 17 April 2024. 3 - 8-car Rocky Mountaineer was approaching Plainview, CO. UP train symbol P DVGSJ-17. Edited 1 time(s). I was under the impression in years past, they used a UP engine crew with their own on board staff. Otherwise a Rocky Mountaineer crew would have to qualify on the territory so it was easier to use UP engineers and conductors.

One of the reasons Rocky was able to make an agreement with UP was the stipulation that Rocky use its own operating crews. UP likes it since they have no involvement with equipment, crews, servicing. Rocky provides all that for themselves, and all UP has to provide is the railroad and dispatchers.
