Amtrak resumes TxEagle service to Texarkana
Author: GenePoon

TEXARKANA, Ark. (KTAL/KMSS) – After a brief closure, Amtrak’s Texarkana station is back open, and trips are set to resume this weekend.

Amtrak says the problems began when severe storms moved through the area on April 5th.

An unused elevator tower connected to the Union Station building was damaged, making Amtrak’s temporary station unsafe to access.

Amtrak was originally forced to move operations into a temporary building after a storm damaged the Union Station building late last year.

“We’ve been unable to use the main buildings since October, and we want very much to come out of the temporary building we’re in, either put a bigger, better temporary building in or even better get back inside the station,” says Amtrak spokesman Marc Magliari.

Amtrak says they are getting plenty of support from officials, including the mayors and city managers on both sides of the state line, so they are confident they can come up with better medium—and long-term solutions.
Texarkana sees anywhere between three and five thousand Amtrak passengers a year, so it hopes to prevent more service interruptions in the future.
