Passenger Trains > VIA Rail Canadian from Toronto to Winnipeg April 2024

About a week ago, I rode westbound VIA Rail Canadian Train # 1 for the second time out of Toronto, except that I was only going as far as Winnipeg. However, Winnipeg wasn't the end point for me as I was going to be taking the VIA Rail Train up to Churchill afterwards. That will be a different thread so I'll focus more on the Canadian in this one. This was a rather interesting trip on VIA1. First off, this was the very last run of a very longtime engineer of 50 years, Michael Porier, who started with CN and then worked for VIA Rail. Michael operated the train between Toronto and Capreol. Congradulations and best wishes on your retirement Michael!! Next, due to trackwork on a stretch of the Newmarket Sub that VIA1 normally uses, we perform a reverse move east of Union Station and up the Don Valley Sub to a spot near Johnsview Park. At that point, we are able to proceed west with the engines leading on the regular route. I rode this train out of Toronto on 4/13/24. Here are the pictures.
